We have been working with solicitors for over 10 years. In addition to solicitors we also deal with claims management companies which are regulated by The Ministry of Justice and Immigration advisors that are regulated by the OISC.
Zia & Co is a member firm of The ICAEW Solicitors Special Interest Group and our specialist team manager has been fully trained in the solicitor's accounts rules and is also a member of the ILFM (The institute of legal finance and management).
Our specialty is helping smaller start up firms set up their accounts systems. Indeed, some of our solicitor firms have since grown to 30+ fee earners and we have assisted with many conversions to LLP/Ltd company status.
We realise that smaller firms are less likely to employ a fulltime qualified legal cashier. The bookkeeper may be competent but not familiar with the SARs. Or the bookkeeping may be left to one of the fee earners or even the legal secretary. Therefore, smaller firms actually need far more help and support with their compliance, bookkeeping and assistance with accounts software.Again with experience of several legal software packages including Lawbyte, Lawfusion, Perfect books and Proclaim. We can help you find the right accounts system that is suitable for your size of firm and level of experience. We will even check the first few client account reconciliations to make sure they are on the right track. We can also assist with the bookkeeping until you find your own bookkeeper. A service that not many accountancy firms provide.
We work with your bookkeeper from the beginning, so that breaches can be detected and rectified earlier. We will prepare the accounts and SAR report together as this helps us identify any breaches during the year and the solicitors have the accounts available in time for their indemnity insurance renewal. At the end of the year we will prepare a management letter and work with you to resolve any potential issues prior to finalising the SAR report.
Ask yourself how well does my accountant know my software?
Some accountants who are not too familiar with legal software will try to recommend SAGE, QuickBooks or use spreadsheets for their solicitor clients. But we believe this is not in the clients best interest and we actively encourage solicitors to use legal accounts software as they are specifically designed to help you comply with the solicitors accounts rules.
We do understand that with so much choice it can be a minefield. So after having done our own research our preferred choice for the smaller practice is Perfect Books. Visit the following link and you will see our case study on Perfect Software's website.
You are welcome to contact us for further information or arrange a meeting and hopefully we can tailor a package that suits you.
